Two days after Jay Underwood was shot to dying inside a WinCo Foods store in Northeast Portland, members of his household are reeling and trying to find solutions.
Blake Daniels, an obvious acquaintance of Underwood, is accused of fatally capturing him Wednesday night time contained in the WinCo Meals on Northeast 122nd Avenue in Portland.
Police have launched little details about what led to the killing and haven’t detailed the connection between Underwood and the person suspected of killing him. In the meantime, members of Underwood’s household say they’re at a loss for why he was killed.
“Principally, he was within the improper place, on the improper time with the improper individual,” Perfecto Mangual, Underwood’s brother-in-law, instructed The Oregonian/OregonLive on Friday.
Daniels, 38, was arrested early Thursday morning at a Northeast Portland motel, about 10 hours after the deadly capturing. Daniels can be accused in an armed carjacking within the WinCo Meals car parking zone shortly after the capturing.
Mangual stated his household doesn’t know Daniels and believes he and Underwood have been acquaintances.
“We don’t know,” Mangual stated. “It’s caught us utterly off guard.”
Mangual stated his brother-in-law was a beneficiant, dependable man who labored as an data expertise skilled — and as a handyman on the aspect.
He remembered a time about 10 years in the past, when his accomplice determined she needed to put in new flooring of their house.
“Jay stated, ‘Simply give me a name,’” Mangual stated.
The couple did, and Underwood and two others measured, reduce and put in the floorboards.
“Then he stated, ‘OK, so long.’ We simply purchased them a few beers and that was it,” Mangul stated. “That’s the kind of man he was.”
He stated members of the family are nonetheless ready to be taught extra from the police investigation.
“He was a sweetheart,” Mangual stated. “It’s simply exhausting to fathom how this is able to occur to him.”
